· In the
movie Invictus, François and President
Mandela demonstrate leadership as they work toward their own goal. As President
Mandela came into power, he had to combat the resentment by the people toward
the ones who oppressed them. -Although the people wanted to remove the
Springboks rugby team, Mandela realized that the country needed to unify
therefore he argued for the team. Even though the vote was unanimous, Mandela
still understood which decision would be best for the country and stood up for
his judgment.
· After
Mandela spoke to François about the world cup, François tries to persuade the
team to learn the new national anthem. The team refuses the suggestion but
François chooses to learn it and to be an example. The movie displays several
examples of ethical leadership in difficult situations. Both leaders saw the
bigger picture that would unite the country and benefit everyone.

· As Sino
Club President, I have to decide how much money to spend on the club and how
much to spend on our charity. The money could go towards our lunches at a
Chinese buffet or towards an underprivileged school in China. Everyone would
prefer to spend the money on the lunch to make the meal cheaper but it would be
straying from our club’s purpose. In the end, we came up with a compromise by
dividing the money up and adding on some more community service.
· One of my
captains on the hockey team had to make the decision of going with the majority
of the team to a party or to get some rest for an important game the next day. It
was a friend’s birthday party and it was special since she was turning 16. The
dilemma was that everyone there would be drinking and it would have a terrible
effect on our game. Although everyone was upset with her, she chose not to
attend the party.
· As Class
Vice-President, I take attendance at the class meetings we have every week. At
one of the meetings, my friend tells me that she really needs to finish writing
her paper and skip the meeting. If I mark her absent, she would get a
detention. She already had several disciplinary marks and if she gets one more,
it would be noted on her permanent record. Since the meeting had a very small
agenda and it was easy to tell her, I chose not to be the one to ruin her
permanent record and I marked her present.
